Monte Jouf – Cai 983 - Tornantini
Description
From Maniago, you can either ride directly up to Malga Jouf, past the Castello and up the next seven kilometers to the plateau on gravel, hairpin bend after hairpin bend. Or you can take the little road to Poffabro, then the mountain road up to Forcella di Pala Barzana and along a gravel road from the north to Malga Jouf. Up here you get a great view of the Carnic Alps in nearby Slovenia.
At the left-hand bend, the cart track starts to the right across the meadow and soon becomes a trail. Keep right at a fork and the trail adventure begins. You ride along the Cai 983 trail into the forest, flowing with loose stones. It gets steeper, but quite fun on the rocky forest floor. There are several variants, but they all lead back to the forest road of the ascent. Roll down the forest road for a few hundred meters until you turn steeply left at a table into the Tornanti trail. Narrow and gravelly, it now gets technical. One hairpin bend follows another and the narrow path along the slope is sometimes very exposed. This trail is so different from all the trails on Monte Jouf. But it shows just how much variety there is on this mountain - it's simply gigantic. At the bottom, a fun and fast trail then leads back to Maniago.
