The loop trail around the Campolongo Fort, a World War I-era structure near the small but idyllic village of Albaredo, is one of the most impressive all-mountain trails on the Asiago Plateau.

Description

The route begins in the small village of Albaredo. Starting right off the main road, the route initially rides a paved road and later a gravel forest road, steadily climbing with moderate to medium gradients. On the final sections, the terrain becomes somewhat rougher and more rugged at times, requiring active pedaling before you finally reach the historic Forte Campolongo from World War I. This impressive structure from a dark era of history invites you to take a short break for a visit. The trail descent begins right at the fort, which offers a breathtaking view of the Val d’Astico and the Italian Pre-Alps. On a trail rated S2 to S3, you wind your way down toward the Rifugio Campolongo, whose surroundings are used as a ski resort in winter. This is followed by a short transfer on asphalt before heading onto the famous “Rotzo Trail” into the Val Martello. The trail initially runs along a rough forest road or a bumpy cart track and gradually transforms into a narrow singletrack of difficulty S1 to S2, which eventually leads back to the starting point. Depending on snow conditions and weather, this mountain bike tour can be completed very early in the season or well into late autumn. Thanks to the south-facing orientation, the trails dry out quickly, so you can usually expect good traction.
