Panchina Mardifaia

The Panchina Mardifaia bein Santorso may only be a small wooden bench at just under 1000 meters above sea level, but it turns out to be a real trail highlight in the Veneto region thanks to the descent.

Description

The tour starts in the small town of Santorso in the province of Vicenza. From here, the route takes a relaxed side road to Piovene Rocchette and then not so gently for around 900 meters to the legendary bench. Initially very steep on asphalt, briefly on gravel and then very steep again on concrete ramps, the route winds quickly up to the culmination point of the tour. At the saddle itself, you descend a few more meters on a forest road before arriving at the well-known viewpoint of Panchina Mardifaia. A small sunny plateau with a view to the south leaves nothing to be desired. Especially on spring and autumn days, this plateau is literally worth its weight in gold.

After an extensive panoramic study, you can prepare for the essentials - the trail descent. Initially, the trail descends along the ridge on difficulty level S2 towards Localitá Rovrea, but after about 100 meters of descent, you turn right onto the military trail. Here it becomes very flowy and you surf down an old military road on difficulty S1. At an altitude of around 600 meters above sea level, you come to a feeder road before continuing on to the trail highlight. You cross the entire southern ridge back to the starting point on a difficulty level of S2. A surfing experience that is second to none.
