Monte Cengio, with its countless combinations of ascents and descents, not only offers breathtaking and dizzying views of the depths, but also an interesting and varied trail descent with a historical background via Forte Corbin.

Description

The tour starts in Cogollo del Cengio, a picturesque village on the southern slopes of Monte Cengio and below Monte Croce. The gentle uphill leads along a military road that climbs steadily in numerous hairpin bends until you reach Piazzale Principe di Piemonte on the south-western Asiago Plateau.

This is where one of the highlights of the tour begins: the Sentiero dei Granatieri. This spectacular trail has been carved directly into the rock face and offers breathtaking panoramic views as well as an impressive traverse along the steep walls. We recommend taking some time to study the information boards along the way, which provide a deep insight into the historical significance of the region.

The first trail descent with difficulty level S2 begins at the Rifugio al Granatiere. The trail winds its way northwards on earth and limestone before it finally turns into a harnessed path. This is followed by a gentle crossing on gravel via the wide feeder path to Forte Corbin. This excellently preserved fortress from the First World War offers an exciting opportunity for a visit.

Now the main part of the descent begins: a trail with difficulty level S2, which is typical for this region and rises to S2+ at certain points depending on the weather conditions. The trail rides down through dense forests towards Pedescala. From here, follow the cycle route along the Torrione di Pedescala and ride parallel to the Astico river.
