Monte Pao (Val di Astico)

Monte Paú (1417 meters above sea level) is a scenic and technical trail insider tip in the Val di Astico and a must-do tour for hairpin bend experts.

Description

The tour starts in the small village of Cogollo del Cengio. From here, the military road first leads uphill on asphalt and then on gravel to Campiello at a moderate gradient. From here you briefly cross the main road and take the path towards Malga Ceresana and then the last few meters on a military road to the ridge crossing Cima del Gallo (1417 meters above sea level). Once you reach the highest point, many things become clear: the strong fortifications from the First World War surround the entire area around the Val di Astico. The Cima del Gallo is no different. A seemingly endless number of paths were built along the mountain ridge and the southern section over 100 years ago. Today, these are perfect for bikers and offer alpine flair as well as technical challenges.

Starting at difficulty level S2, the route gets down to business for the first time after Bocchetta di Paú (1282 meters above sea level). You should have a head for heights to be able to negotiate the first bends. It is also practical to be able to shift the rear wheel in the hairpin bends. This means you have already completed half the trail rental on difficulty S3, later S2 towards Ronchi. You briefly cross an agricultural feeder road, after which the trail becomes easier and easier and you surf down it to the starting point. There is a lot on offer here at over 1100 Elevation loss. Panoramic, trail-technical and historical at the highest level. Especially recommended in spring and fall!
