August is a good time for high-alpine routes in the Alps. This is because the window between snowmelt and fresh snow is short. In keeping with this, tour author Martin Depauli has recorded some new bike 3000ers in France and Austria. Incidentally, all of the newly recorded tours in August are exclusively by Depauli for once.

High alpine tours France & Austria

One of the high alpine highlights in August is the Pointe de la Saume (3043 meters above sea level) in southern Queyras in the French Hautes-Alpes. It offers a spectacular and seemingly endless single trail descent. Also worth mentioning is the Schwarzkogel, where you leave the Bike Republik Sölden and finally climb the 3016 meter high summit.

Tours Friuli & Croatia

Autumn is just around the corner, and with it comes the opportunity for MTB routes in more southerly regions. Croatia in particular, which is still little known as a bike destination, offers exciting opportunities here. One of the highlights on the Adriatic coast is the Vella Kosa with its long and technically challenging single trail descent, which offers magnificent views. A little further north, in the middle of Friuli, is the Forcella Campidello, from which a very long descent leads into Val Resia.
