Brechhorn
Description
The tour begins in Kirchberg in Tirol. The official bike route heads south toward Aschau, alternating between paved and gravel surfaces. You’ll briefly follow the main road toward Brügglbach before the actual climb begins. A classic gravel road leads to the Brechhornhaus at 1,700 meters above sea level, where you can stop for a break. After that, you’ll have to push or carry your bike the rest of the way, climbing just under 350 meters in elevation. The route ends at 2,023 meters above sea level, where you reach the summit of the Brechhorn. The view extends to the Grosser Rettenstein, the Hohe Tauern, and the Wilder Kaiser, right in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps.
The descent from the summit is rated S3. The trail includes some very technical sections and hairpin turns, but then becomes a bit smoother and runs along the ridge. Shortly before the Brechhornhaus, there are more challenging key sections in the form of hairpin turns. From the Brechhornhaus, the route continues to Kreuzjöchlsee—once again offering stunning scenery—then toward Wiegalm and finally onto the trail to the Brixenbachalm. Expect an S2 difficulty rating here. This section follows a classic downhill route over limestone and grippy gravel through larch forests. From the Brixenbachalm, the route rolls smoothly back to Brixen im Thale, via Feuring, and along the official bike route to Kirchberg in Tirol. This tour should be done outside of weekends and holidays, as there may be more hikers around the hut during those times.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
