Niederkaiser - Granderalm
Description
The start is just outside the center of St. Johann in Tirol. Initially, the route is a relaxed ride on asphalt along the Schwendter Straße road with a moderate incline uphill towards Gasteig - accompanied by wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. In Gasteig, you leave the road and follow the official cycle route on a forest path through dense beech and spruce forests up to the Kaiser Niederalm. The uphill section is easy to ride throughout before you have to push or carry your bike for a short distance on the last climb to reach the transition point.
At the top, an impressive panorama opens up - and the start of the trail descent is already clearly visible. The first section of the trail is technically demanding, reaching difficulty level S2, occasionally S3, depending on the weather and trail conditions. After the Granderalm, the descent changes to a historic mule track, which rides much more smoothly and at a steady gradient through the wooded slopes. In the area of the hamlet of Maurer, you reach a populated area where there is a mix of trail and road sections. The last few meters run on classic side trails back to the starting point, where the loop closes.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
