Schnappen (Kirchdorf in Tirol)

The Schnappenkamm above the Schnappenalm in the Tyrolean lowlands is characterized by breathtaking panoramic views of the Wilder Kaiser and the main Alpine ridge and a flowing trail descent.

Description

You start just above Kirchdorf in Tirol, in the idyllic Griesenau. From here, a classic forest road rides steadily uphill on gravel through dense forests until you reach the Untere Schnappenalm and later the Obere Schnappenalm. The views along the way are spectacular: from the Wilder Kaiser, you can see as far as the Hohe Tauern, including the massive glaciers of the Großvenediger and Großglockner. The summit trail begins at the Obere Schnappenalm and rides directly to the Schnappen. In the upper section, a cross-country-style ridge crossing follows with a short intermediate ascent - scenically impressive and technically slightly challenging.

The descent then begins. The first few meters run along the familiar ascent route and are technically moderate (S1-S2). The route leads back to the Obere Schnappenalm, where the trail is a little unclear in places, but still remains easy to ride. The route continues in a similar style to the Stubenalm. This is followed by the trail highlight of the tour: a mule track, exposed in places but very flowy, which winds its way down into the valley along the Sandtalbach stream, just like in the foothills of the Alps. The difficulty level here is S2 throughout, with great flow and natural passages. Finally, you reach the valley floor again at Altmühl and roll relaxed back to the starting point in Griesenau.
