Schafelberg
Description
The starting point of this tour is the village of Kirchdorf in Tirol. From here, the official Habach cycle route takes you steadily uphill through the forest on a forest highway. From an altitude of around 1200 meters above sea level, you are outside the forest area and you already have a good view of the Wilder Kaiser and the Leukental as well as the Hohe Tauern. The route continues in this manner to the Gerstbergalm. Now the bike is pushed or carried almost 200 meters up to the Kirchberg (1678 meters above sea level). The summit itself is overgrown with mountain pines, but offers a fabulous panoramic view of the Leogang and Loferer Steinberge mountains to the east, the Hohe Tauern to the south and the Chiemgau Alps to the north.
The descent begins at the summit. Initially at difficulty levels S2 to S3, a mix begins up to the Schafelberg. From Schafelberg, the route continues in the same style. In between at S1 level, there are always S2 and S3 sections. There are some hairpin bends to master, especially in the lower section, which require concentration and good line choice. The trail descent ends in St. Ulrich am Pillersee and you pedal along the Pillersee towards Waidring. There are a few more trail cut-offs to take before you take the official cycle route back to Erpfendorf in Waidring. From Erpfendorf to Kirchdorf in Tirol, the transfer along the Großache is a relaxed ride.
Note: The route is located on Austrian territory and leads over routes that are not approved for mountain bikers. Riding this route on a mountain bike is the responsibility of each individual, in full awareness of the legal situation.
