Campello-Trail

Alpe Campelli (Sondrio)

The singletrail descent from Alpe Campello near Sondrio is a blast - which has to be hard earned. Almost 1500 meters of ascent in one go are on the agenda, 500 of which are very steep. But the effort pays off.

Description

On the Campello tour, the entire difference in altitude is covered in one go. 1000 meters of altitude difference lead from Porto up a small road to Campelli. Then it's down to the wire. First on a very steep concrete road, then a little less steep but on gravel. The last third of the ascent is a feat of strength, which is why an e-mountain bike is not a bad choice for this route. The culmination point is reached at Alpe Campello at 1800 meters above sea level, and now it's time for the singletrail descent. The start of the trail is a little difficult to spot at first, but once you reach the first trees, the path becomes a super trail. Up to San Bernardo, the trail is flowing, on forest soil, fast, fun, varied - a highlight! After San Bernardo, the whole thing gets a bit rougher, instead of roots there are now stones, but the trail is still a lot of fun. It's like an endless descent, with a quick break in the village of Faedo, then the trail rush continues. Towards the end of the descent, it even becomes smoother again - almost on a par with the epic initial section. Once at the bottom of the valley, follow the cycle path along the River Adda back to Sondrio.

Tour made on 15.08.25. Long ascent. I pushed the short section on the concrete road. As an organic biker, that's no disgrace. However, the forest road is easy to pedal.
At Alpe Campello you have a great view of the Bergamo Alps including the reservoir.
However, the trail to San Bernardo is an absolute highlight!!!
Then it gets rougher, but the trail is still fun. Here, too, the trail is a real blast.

If you are in the Veltlina Valley, you should definitely do this tour

Did the tour on August 3, 2025 and yes, the 1400 hm are quite a challenge.
I did the tour with a 400Wh battery which was enough. I can recommend the tour.

The approach is steep, partly 30% in the upper part. The descent, as described, is epic in the upper part. Beautiful forest with tricky sections and super flowy turns. In the second part as described. However, no more nice flow.
Definitely a tour to repeat!

Very cool descent, especially the upper part. A few loose stones at the bottom.
