Cima di Granda | Ride MTB

Cima di Granda

The Cima di Grande lies steeply above Ardenno in Valtellina and is a classic mountain bike tour: up a small road, then down an endless single trail. An impressive but challenging tour.

Description

The starting point is Ardenno, just below Sondrio. The road climbs uphill on asphalt in eternal serpentine mode but with a pleasant gradient. You pass the village of Buglio and follow the signs to the Rifugio Alpe Granda. After around 1100 meters in altitude, the surface changes to gravel, it also gets a little steeper, and in this way you reach the mountain ridge and the Cima dei Granda with its great view of the Valtellina, the Bergamo Alps opposite and the Bergell peaks towering to the north. The subsequent descent is at least as great as the view, at least initially. The descent along the ridge is super flowy and fun. After a turn-off, the path becomes more treacherous. In an alternation of flowing S2 passages and very difficult to unrideable (but always only short) S5 sections, the descent continues. As the distance increases, the S5 sections become S4 sections and then S3 sections until you reach the final bouquet at Biolo: a super flowy path rides along the mountain for a very long time until you turn right into a winding and somewhat steeper trail - a fun way to end the tour. Once at the bottom of the valley, you then roll back to the starting point on asphalt roads.

Note: Due to its southern exposure, the trail is usually rideable early in the year and until November. The highest point is just under 1700 meters above sea level.
