Cima Ombladet - Bosco Bordaglia

Cima Monte Ombladet - Bosco Bordaglia

The Cima Ombladet is a heavily fortified mountain ridge from the First World War in the middle of the Carnic Alps and offers countless trail descents thanks to its historic past.

Description

The route starts in the village of Forni Avoltri. From here, you wind your way uphill on asphalt along the main road towards Frassenetto at a moderate gradient. In Frassenetto, at just under 1100 meters above sea level, you change to a forest road and follow it uphill to around 1600 meters above sea level. A magnificent view of the surrounding mountains opens up in a somewhat sleepy area. The view of the Belluno Dolomites makes up for the climb so far. The route continues relatively well uphill to the Casera Monte dei Buoi. From this point, you are above the tree line and push or carry your bike up to the summit of Cima Ombladet (2255 meters above sea level). A few fragments from the First World War can still be found at the summit. Beyond that, the panorama is deluxe. Lake Wolay is within reach, to the north you have a view of the entire Carnic main ridge, and to the south of the Tagliamento, Tolmezzo and the Mediterranean. Especially in the fall and spring, you can also see as far as the Grossglockner to the north. This gives you one of the best panoramic views of the Alps to be found anywhere.

An equally impressive highlight of this tour is the downhill trail. Initially on the ascent trail at difficulty level S2, in places S3, you follow the ridge. Then you wind your way down a little with an intermediate ascent towards Forcella di Ombladet. A breathtaking mountain backdrop was chosen here to carve the former Alpini trail into the mountain. Towards Casera Ombladet di Sopra di Sotto, you can expect a top-class panoramic trail. Constant difficulty S2 to S3 challenges but does not overwhelm the riders who conquer this mountain. The route then continues in this manner back to the starting point, with the last few meters on a feeder road and a forest road. The area where the Rio Bordaglia joins the Torrente Degano is particularly interesting. Here, nature has worked its magic and conjured up breathtaking natural pools in the mountain. All in all, this is one of the most varied and interesting bike tours in the Carnic Alps, which is particularly impressive due to its solitude and breathtaking views.
