Flims - Rheinschlucht

Rheinschlucht (Ruinaulta)

The Rhine Gorge is one of the most impressive landscapes in Switzerland. A single trail rides right through it, which is very popular with mountain bikers.

Description

The tour starts at the small crossing from Flims to Laax. Initially you ride along forest roads, then take the first trail at Mutta Sura. This ends a little above Conn and it is worth making a detour to the viewing platform. The route then leads directly into the gorge, although this descent is only moderately fun - the path has too many steps. It only gets really fun once you have crossed the Rhine on the railroad bridge. You still have to master a crisp counter-climb to Chrummwag, after which a flowing trail runs upstream along the Rhine. Again and again, you have to master some poisonous but rideable climbs, in some places roots require a good line, but then the trail always becomes flowy again. The spectacular scenery adds to the unique experience. The trail rides all the way to Ilanz, from where you can take the postbus back to Flims. Caution: On the trail through the Rhine Gorge, it is recommended that you only ride your mountain bike before 9 am and after 4 pm.

In 2014, Flims issued a recommendation on the routes from Mutta Sura to Conn and in the entire Rhine Gorge that mountain bikers should not ride these trails between 10 am and 4 pm. In the winter months, the route should not be used at all.

2022.03.27 Rode from versam safien to ilanz. very rideable versam to valendas sagogn. afterwards like ice skating rink, 500m in total (100 at the start, 400 at the end).

The rest was great, beautiful views, a few technical sections, and this spring, hardly any hikers.
