Alp Clünas – Val Tasna

Scuol Ardez (Home of Trails)

The Alp Clünas tour is one of the great classics that can be ridden in different variations. The version into Val Tasna is an exciting and varied enduro tour, which also includes a few meters of ascent.

Description

The trail starts at the mountain station of the Motta-Naluns cable cars, although this 850-metre difference in altitude can easily be mastered under your own steam. From here, there are another 300 meters of ascent to overcome until you reach the wonderfully situated Alp Clünas via a beautiful high-altitude trail. Now the real fun begins! A meadow trail leads down to Alp Laret, where the fun continues on a singletrail to Prui. The downhill fun only comes to a temporary end at Clarai. There is now a 60-metre ascent to master before the next trail gets flowing again. Finally, you reach the bridge in Val Tasna, from where you take the country road to Ftan. In the Pitschen district, the next trail firework display begins, this time down to the banks of the Inn. You then follow the river for the last few meters of the tour down the valley to the historic town center of Scuol.

Rather easy tour that can be combined very well with the newly created trails. Only at the top of the descent to Alp Clünas should you definitely take the new shoveled trail. The original GPX track, which can be downloaded here, leads across a marshy pasture. The cow dung has dissolved in the small pools and forces you to breathe 100% through your nose and then to the washing plant. Worthless. So skip it and ride the shoveled trail. The rest is quite nice and, in combination with the gondola and the chairlift (does NOT take e-bikes), easily doable in 3:30. Only at the bottom of the Baraigla Trail do you have to concentrate. Not difficult, but VERY steep and only one narrow lane on partly loose gravel.

Danger+

I have marked the newly created path from 2022 between Muot da l'Hom and Alp Laret in OpenStreetMap so that it can be adopted. The upper part is very winding and not very smooth to ride (but easy), after that it gets a little faster and more flowy.

Beautiful tour with a great panorama and lots of trails.

The trail to Alp Clünas is new and doesn't follow the GPX track - but you can't miss it.

This part is one shaped bend after another - I don't know why all trail builders think that makes bikers happy. Natural hairpin bends are much more exciting!

I agree with the natural hairpin bends! In addition, the surface of the shaped sectors hardly offers any grip in the wet (despite the Maxxis Minion DHF) and the equipment, including the rider, is really covered in paste. I can hardly imagine that the trail construction is better than the original version :-(

Beautiful tour.
Technique / endurance 3/6
Panorama 5/6

Afterwards - thanks for the tip Stabock - take the cable car up to Motta Naluns - and take in the Flurina descent. Cool thing. The Flurina downhill is much more technical than the Clünas descent.

Casual tour with great descents. We used the Motta Naluns gondola lift again immediately afterwards and added the Flurina descent... HAMMER!
