Cima Palon - Sopramonte
Description
The route starts in Trento near the panoramic mountain Doss Trento. From here, the route follows steep side roads to Candriai and on to the ski resort of Vason (1650 meters above sea level). The view is already magnificent on the ascent, but you have to share the main road with cars, motorcycles and racing cyclists. The leisurely uphill section is over at the lift facilities. From here, a merciless ascent on gravel begins up to the Palon summit. The bike has to be pushed in places, while e-mountain bikers manage the ascent by riding. Once you reach Cima Palon, the scenery is divided into two parts. On the one hand, the mountain drops steeply to the east and offers some of the best views in the Alps. To the west is the ski area, which offers a somewhat less thrilling experience in summer. Behind it, the Adamello-Brenta group stands out.
The descent via the Sentiero dei Mughi, an old military road from the First World War, leads down to the start of the ski area to Vason on difficulty levels S2 to S3. A perfectly paved road, which has since been somewhat destroyed by the lifts, is just waiting to be skied. In Vason, the route continues along historic paths. You surf through a fairytale forest that looks more like "Lord of the Rings" than a trail in the middle of Trento. In the S1 to S2 style, the route continues for a long time through the enchanted forest before finally taking the Sentiero to Malga Brigolina. Alternating between S1 and S2 difficulty, S3 in places, the Elevation loss is destroyed with a broad grin on your face. The trail fun ends just before the village of Sopramonte. On side roads, you wind your way through Italian urban conditions to Cadine and then continue towards Poza dei Pini, climbing about 200 meters in altitude again. Above the cliff edge, there is another breathtaking panorama for bikers with a head for heights before the next trail highlight of the tour. Over 500 Elevation loss awaits here, pure trail pleasure. Relatively exposed at times, full concentration is required. The rest of the time you can just soak up the trail before finally arriving at the starting point in the middle of Vela. Conclusion: All in all, one of the most breathtaking tours in Trento. Varied, panoramic and technical at the highest level. With regard to the uphill, a shuttle to Monte Bondone can be considered, this transfer shortens the tour massively. For e-bikers, it is important to take a charger or a second battery with you.

You can take the cable car from Trento up to Sardagna. This saves
about 400 steep meters in altitude.
I used the cable car a few times. And, would you believe it, I was
alone in the gondola, even on a Sunday!
Costs 6 euros including the bike.
When the bike crowds gather on Lake Garda at Easter, we have never encountered a biker, a hiker or a bear on this ingenious trail, and certainly not along its entire length!
The ascent on the hiking trail and military road to Sardagna is very steep! We recommend the ascent on the tarred road, which is 17 km long but less steep. An e-bike is a pleasant alternative.
For us, however, the highest point was already reached in Vason as the ski area was in operation and there was still snow!
A short and rough start from Vason followed by a fun cross passage on rocky sloping sections and then on to a flat rocky path through a pine forest! From then on, a trail with a lot of flow through forests and across meadows, with plenty of challenges! ! A descent that we didn't think was possible and that more than convinced us. Pure fun!
It was worth doing a bike weekend before Lake Garda! Especially as Trento also has a clearly laid out old town and there are lots of aperitifs and good restaurants!
