Giro Sopramonte
Description
The starting point of the tour is the small village of Vela above Trento. From here, you wind your way uphill to Sardagna on side roads and some main roads. From Sardagna, the route continues to Castellar della Grua, where the first summit of the tour awaits. The last few meters are pedaled uphill on a small singletrail before passing the first viewpoint on difficulty S2 to S3 and descending to Sopramonte. Well warmed up, the route switches from downhill to uphill again. The next few meters up to Monte Croce are already programmed and don't leave much room for manoeuvre. Once you reach Monte Croce, the panorama is deluxe. At just under 700 meters above sea level, it's not really a high mountain, but it's certainly enough for a great 360-degree panorama. It is also enough for a varied downhill. Once you have traversed the mountain, you return to Cadine on S1 to S2. The Doss Calchera section in particular demands a lot of riding skill to master the last few steps. From Cadine, the final uphill towards Pian dei Laghetti begins. Once again, the panorama is breathtaking and offers views towards Trento, the Adige Valley and the Valsugana before the grandiose final downhill begins. A historic path, walled and paved, rides all the way to Vela. Caution: The middle section once again shows its teeth on difficulty S3 and in places S4.

After Cadine, it is not only worth riding up to the saddle but also continuing on a former military road to the summit of the Soprasasso. In addition to magnificent views down into the Adige Valley, there is a beautiful S2 trail that turns left shortly after the summit and rides back to the saddle.
You can take the cable car from Trento up to Sardagna. This saves
about 400 steep meters in altitude.
I used the cable car a few times. And, would you believe it, I was
alone in the gondola, even on a Sunday!
Costs 6 euros including the bike.
