Monte Zugna

Monte Zugna (Rovereto)

Monte Zugna, with its seemingly endless ascent, offers equally endless descents, with the variant via Monte di Marco being one of the most impressive.

Description

The route starts in the trail town of Rovereto, which is rightly famous among bikers. From then on, the uphill is on asphalt throughout and the former military road from the First World War winds its way up to the summit of Monte Zugna for what feels like half an eternity. Only on the last few meters from the Rifugio Monte Zugna is it difficult to ride this section. Many people push the last few meters to the summit. Once you reach Monte Zugna (1863 meters above sea level), it is hard to imagine that war once raged here. Only fragments remain to remind us of it - all the better to live in a time like now and to be able to enjoy the view without a care in the world.

The descent runs in the upper section on a difficulty of S1 to S2 on the ascent variant, but then takes a sharp left and runs directly along the ridge. There are several variants here, with the panorama to the south being particularly breathtaking. Continue past the Rifugio Monte Zugna and on the same level of difficulty to the forest road. You then cross this to the north and finally take the downhill over Monte die Marco. Via Direttissima, the route really gets down to business on difficulty S3. Typical for the area: loose scree, leaves and high ledges pave the way. It's not the easiest, but it's incredibly fun. Towards Marco, the small district of Rovereto at the end of the descent, there are a few meters of flow at the end before you join the main road and roll back to the starting point.

Note: A shuttle can be taken up to the Rifugio Monte Zugna, which reduces the ascent by a good 90 percent.
