Monte Carone
Description
The tour starts in Riva and winds its way up the legendary, breathtaking and never boring Ponale road to Biacesa di Ledro. From Biacesa di Ledro, the route to Pré di Ledro is always constant and quite pleasant along the cycle path. Later, the route climbs steeply up to Leano, where you have to contend with cobblestones and stones in the first section. At Leano, you can replenish your water reserves before continuing along paths, forest tracks and meadows to the Guil saddle. Shortly before Prati di Guil, you have to take the path to the right and thus the old military road up to Monte Carone at 1621 meters above sea level. The result: wow! You can let out a big wow at the summit. The panoramic view stretches from Tremalzo to the south of Lake Garda, over the whole of Altissimo and Baldo, as well as to the north. A mountain steeped in history with a dark past from the First World War. Today, it offers endless fun and trail adventures.
Down the mountain ridge to the south at S1 to S2 level to the Prati di Guil military road. From Prati di Guil, it's time to pedal again briefly and take the 50-metre climb across the meadow towards Monte Guil. From Monte Guil, you surf back up to S1 to S2 level as far as Passo Rocchetta, where you take the path towards Pregasina (upper trail). The trail continues and after the gravel road the level rises to S3. Shortly before Pregasina (at the fork in the trail), the route continues to Nodice. Here you have to shoulder your bike for around 150 meters of ascent before heading back downhill towards Biancesa di Ledro at S1 to S2 level with short S3 sections. You finally end on the main Pregasina road and can briefly loosen your hands and let your brakes cool down here. End of the trail? Not at all! Continue along the old feeder road of the old power station to the old Pregasina road and on to the old Ponale Hotel. Caution: Before you reach the main road, be sure to ride slowly, as there is a lot of traffic here at high speed and no driver expects cyclists to turn in! From the Ponale Hotel, take the galleries (switch on your lights!) back to Riva. Conclusion: Definitely worth repeating, whether it's spring, summer or fall - always a highlight and a must-do for bike adventures on Lake Garda.
Important: Be sure to take a front and rear light with you, as the tour partly rides through tunnels!
