Cima Tignalga

Cima Tignalga

Lago Tranquillo: The long ascent into the middle of the lonely mountain world of Tignale with three inconspicuous passes is just the prelude to the fascinating ride on the razor's edge to the summit fort followed by a tricky dream trail.

Description

Sometimes quieter is better! On Lake Garda, the better tours are not to be found in the Trentino triangle of Riva-Torbole-Arco, but in the quiet Lombard plateaus of Tremosine and Tignale. The quarter of an hour through the "Gardesana Occidentale" tunnel road to Limone, Vesio & Tignale is well worth it! Speaking of Limone: 42 inhabitants of Limone have a special protein that makes them as old as the hills. Perhaps this unique mutation is the reason why so many senior citizens make the pilgrimage to Limone? But maybe the lake also makes mountain biking immortal? Try it out!

From Tignale (555 m), high above the lake, a narrow, almost car-free asphalt road winds along the slopes of the Cima Piemp to the unmanaged Rifugio Piemp (1165 m), one of the most beautiful viewpoints over the lake. On deserted military roads, you swing over the three Passi d'Ere (1129 m), Scarpape (1242 m) and Puria (1374 m) towards the highlight of this dream tour - a razor-sharp ridge that stretches eastwards from the Passo della Puria. The ride along the ridge ends at the former scout post on the historic Cima Tignalga (1409 m). Let there be light! And there was light. On a pitch-dark spring night in 1918, Italian Alpini illuminated the entire Valle San Michele all the way down to Tremosine, four kilometers away, with a monstrous floodlight at the summit. Today, there is nothing left of the floodlight, the seventeen gun emplacements and seven caves at the summit. A hundred years heal many wounds. Nature is reclaiming what belongs to it - including the two-kilometer-long, razor-sharp mountain ridge. And the inconspicuous summit, which breaks off abruptly on three sides. Bikers ride east towards the lake. But watch out! This descent demands everything from you. So saddle up as low as possible, take another deep breath and then take off S4 on the rock-strewn zigzag course into Valle San Michele! You end up at the main road near Campiglio (625 m), shaken clean and rolling back to Tignale in just a few minutes.
