Bocca di Fobia

Bocca di Fobia

Don't be afraid of falling on the long traverse before Bocca di Fobia! If you like total solitude and lots of air under your butt, you'll find your nirvana in this crisp short loop.

Description

At Lake Garda and not in the mood for the overcrowded classics such as Tremalzo or Altissimo? Then hop in the car and ride through the many tunnels of the Gardesana Occidentale to Limone, the promised land of citrus fruits. And up to the sun terrace of Tremosine, the promised land of solitary super tours. Here in the Lombardy part of Lagoland you can still find the "real" Lake Garda tours: wild, with a military history and lonely. The best example: the super tour to Bocca di Fobia. Within sight of the Tremalzo gravel worm, but infinitely far away from any civilization, you work your way to the lonely pass crossing that separates the Valle di Bondo from the Valle San Michele in a fascinating but dangerous traverse. The best starting point is the famous cheese dairy called Alpe di Garda (632 m), where you can reward yourself with all kinds of local delicacies after surviving a test of courage. But first the work! On a fine, pleasantly sloping military road, you wind your way up to the forest summit of La Cocca (952 m) in three quarters of an hour and turn west here. On a path that is soon narrow as a towel, you now wind your way around Monte Zenone - and again and again through small tunnels - to the highest point at Cima Mughera (1353m). But the adventure in the vertical is far from over! Near the Bocchetta di Nansesa there is an emergency exit to the west: many hairpin bends through the forest down into the Valle Pra della Noci. The intrepid ride (most of them push) stubbornly on northwards. When you finally arrive at the inconspicuous Bocca di Fobia (1286m), you can take a deep breath. In terms of riding technique, the crossing is not wild at all (mostly S2), the limiting factor up here is your head. Confident and courageous bikers can ride anything, normal riders are more likely to push for an hour, anxious riders for longer. The actual descent from the Bocca di Fobia is one of the finest you can experience downhill: tight hairpin bends, high stone steps, soft forest trails, wet roots, a waterfall crossing - and not exactly a lack of air under your butt here either...
