Valle del Singol

Passo Rocchetta, Limone sul Garda

Lake Garda, the destination of your dreams! A fantastic tour leads from the Limone orchards to the Tremosine plateau and along centuries-old military paths to the panoramic realm at Passo Rocchetta. A crisp S3 descent through the steep Valle del Singol then awaits you on the way down. A must-do tour on the lake!

Description

Lago di Garda is more of a creed than a biking spot. Some hate it because of its rutted scree slopes, others love it because of its legendary bike spirit. But the old lady is still alive! And there are still plenty of bikers on "their" self-earned Garda trails. Without lifts, bike parks and Northshore elements. And above all: without flow. Speaking of no flow: the sunny plateau of Tremosine - well protected from the chic-micki craze over in Riva and Torbole - is the purest treasure trove for Garda bikers. If you want to tickle your nerves with a 1100-metre drop, you have to go to Passo Rocchetta - with a final super descent through the pristine Valle del Singol down to Limone. The tour also starts here in the citrus fruit paradise on the shores of Lake Garda. Initially you cycle on asphalt, soon on a little side road with hardly any traffic up to the mountain village of Vesio (650 m). From here, an old military road winds its way up to Cima Sospiri and around Corna Vecchia (1300 m) to Passo Nota (1198 m). If you want to reach Tremalzo at the crossroads in a beautiful clearing, turn west after a well-earned reward at Rifugio Nota. If you want to see the stunning panorama vertically above the glistening lake, head east. Over the Passo di Bestana (1274 m), the Bocca dei Fortini and the Passo Guil (1209 m), you ride up and down towards the edge of the slope. Once you reach the Passo Rocchetta and see the lake glistening 1100 meters below you, you will be amazed. The panoramic realm at Rocchetta is certainly one of the most beautiful spots on the lake. But the very best is yet to come: the super descent through the wild Valle del Singol. To do this, ride a short distance back to Passo Guil and take the inconspicuous trail, which winds its way down a narrow, challenging path into the Valle del Singol. Some tough technical challenges await experienced bikers here, before the trail continues down to the starting point in Limone as a steep cobbled path. By the way: thanks to the ferry, you can also start the tour in Riva.

Tour ridden last week according to gpx. Beautiful but exhausting ascent, after the intermediate descent in Vesio you are on a forest road all the way, sometimes on quite deep gravel. Up to the Rifugio at Passo Nota you are pretty much on your own, from there to the viewpoint at Passo Rocchetta there are quite a few e-bikers.
The descent from Passo Guil is fairly easy to ride and quite fun. Thanks to a mixture of coarse gravel and foliage, the surface is a little rough, but the aforementioned "riding technique nuts" are limited to about two places and are also rather nuts, the descent is hardly more than an S2 in my opinion. What tarnishes the overall impression considerably, however, is that the aforementioned "steep cobbled path" begins at around 750 meters above sea level, so almost 700 meters of elevation gain are lost on this path, which is mostly exactly what the description promises: steep. By the way, if you can read a map, you have a clear advantage, as the change from trail to paved road is marked. Anyway. It may be that there are people with a flair for this kind of thing, but I'm definitely not one of them.
I wouldn't repeat the tour under any circumstances. The uphill is beautiful, the view at Passo Rocchetta really magnificent, the first 400 m of trail are fun, but 700 m of paved road turn the pros and cons into a very unfortunate imbalance.
