Petit Mont Blanc
Description
The route starts in Villeneuve, which can be reached from Aosta on the cycle path. From here, take a small road up to Introd, continue to Buillet and then take the small road into the Val di Rhêmes. Follow this road to the village of Rhêmes-Saint-Georges, then turn left and climb a little over 900 meters in altitude on a gravel road to the Col du Mont Blanc. As spectacular as the name sounds, the crossing is banal - a small meadow in the forest. If you still have enough strength, continue up to the Moute Pailasse (245 vertical meters), where a beautiful view of the Aosta Valley opens up.
As inconspicuous as the Col Mont Blanc is, the singletrail downhill is just as attractive. It rides through the steep forest in typical Aosta Valley flow style. The difficulty level is S2 with some S3 sections. Narrow hairpin bends demand a practiced choice of line in sections until you finally reach the Valsavarenche road through a pine forest. Follow this for a short distance into the valley, but then turn left at Chevrère onto the mountain trail to Champlong. You circle the ridge and finally reach the trail that you know from the Pognon descent in the lower tail. In S2/S3 style, you curve down to the valley floor and then roll along the river back to Villeneuve or on to Aosta.
Note: The tour can be shortened considerably by starting from Introd.

Status quo summer 2025: There are no trees on the routes, they are completely passable.
Did this tour today. The ascent fits the description exactly. On the first one you have to share the road with cars. After that it gets pretty "idyllic". The last 300m are really steep. Basically rideable, but unfortunately not for me in the long run. My strength waned.
The trail also fits the description well. However, with what feels like 150 hairpin bends, you quickly lose the hard-packed vertical meters. However, the trail is fun and flowy.
After the trail, you turn back onto the Valsavarenche roads. From here, I think you can save yourself the rest of the tour. You cycle along this tarred road for a few more kilometers, cross the river and then turn onto the gravel road as described above. Unfortunately, there is no mix of trail on this gravel road. The gravel road runs all the way down the valley. Really a bit boring. Where the GPS track would probably turn into a trail, there is unfortunately no trail (anymore?). We had to make our own way, which was a bit tedious. At the very end, there was a short, crisp trail down to Villeneuve. By the way, the cycle path to Aosta is only available up to about 4km outside Apsta. The rest you have to pedal on the road to Villeneuve.
Conclusion: I think the Aosta Valley has better gates to offer than this one. You can do this tour if you have already done all the others. :-)
We have adapted the second part of the tour a bit as apparently part of this section is overgrown. Thanks for the tip. For me, the descent from Petit Mont Blanc is still one of the coolest trails in Aosta.
