Brünnstein – 653-Steig

Brünnstein

The Brunnstein is a steep climb, the ascent is definitely the steepest in the region. The same can also be said of the downhill trail: the trail winds its way down unusually steeply. Trail specialists will have particular fun on the climb.

Description

The tour starts at the parking lot after Kiefersfelden. First on tarmac to Breitenau, then on gravel to Rechenau. This is where the uphill challenge begins: the next four kilometers are equally steep. Once you reach the Himmelmoos alpine meadows, a small path leads to the Herrenalm. You can relax and roll in here before it gets a little more technical at the Herrenalm on the right into the ditch on the 653 climb. Once in the forest, the gradient increases and the trail becomes exposed with countless hairpin bends, some with roots. Good riding technique is a prerequisite here, otherwise you will be pushing and carrying your bike. It is probably the most challenging trail in the entire region. At the bottom, you reach the Naturfreundehütte and ride back along the forest road until you reach the access route.
